Kïanah Nzanda Buana (b., 1990 in Brussels, lives and works in Brussels) is an abstract painter whose work explores the emotional depth of the human experience through geometric forms rendered in bold palettes. Her work is rooted in broad cross-cultural histories such as American and European graphic languages of the 1970s and indigenous ceremonial art of central Africa. Through her paintings, ceramics and textiles, Nzanda Buana translates the subtleties of the subconscious into bright and energetic compositions that suggest art’s universal spiritual resonance and its ability to allow meaning to emerge through form.

Born in the Belgian post-colonial African diaspora, Nzanda Buana approaches her practice as a form of observation and translation that carries meaning across contexts. Comprising sweeping curves, contained flourishes, and bright color blocks, her work demonstrates the way emotional textures evolve into controlled artistic gestures. Her work avoids representation of collective experiences while suggesting that the universal exists within the particular. Borrowing from her experience as an haute couture fashion model, Nzanda Buana typifies the role of the body as a medium of transfiguration, using acrylic, clay and thread to channel mind into matter.

Nzanda Buana has exhibited in Europe and the United States, and her work is held in private collections around the world.

Son travail s’ancre dans de vastes histoires interculturelles, mêlant les langages graphiques américains et européens des années 1970 et l’art cérémoniel indigène d’Afrique centrale.
